What instruments do you service?

We primarily service electric guitars, bass guitars and (electro-)acoustic guitars.

Do you offer a re-stringing service?

Yes we do. Re-stringing is included for free in many of our services.

Do I need to make an appointment?

Yes – please make an appointment to drop off or collect your guitar. This is to ensure that someone is here to receive you and that you don’t make a wasted journey, and also for safety reasons – we have tools and machinery on site that can be dangerous if encountered by unplanned visitors. Contact us by phone or email to make a booking.

How long will you have my guitar?

We will discuss turnaround time with you when you commission a service. If you have a specific deadline that you need to meet, let us know and we’ll try (but cannot guarantee) to meet it. Some tasks, such as re-stringing and guitar setups, will generally be completed in 3-7 days though setups take longer for guitars with Floyd Rose tremolo systems. Most jobs can be completed within a week (volume of repairs permitting), but some are more involved or require greater attention and will take longer, sometimes several weeks.

How much will it cost?

View our services for details of prices. We recommend that you contact us for an estimate on the work you have in mind. In some cases we will need to examine your instrument in order to give an accurate quotation. The cost of work varies depending on the service required and the instrument in question. Our quotations are transparent so you always know what you’re paying for, and we never undertake any work without your permission. We are always happy to have a conversation with you about how we can maximise benefit from your budget. The cost of strings, hardware and materials is always extra. Where an hourly rate applies, this is charged at £35 per hour.

Do you charge a bench fee?

Yes, we charge a bench fee of £30 for examining your instrument and diagnosing any problems or areas for improvement. This fee goes towards the cost of any work if you decide to go ahead with it (and therefore is not an additional fee). If you decide not to go ahead with the work, the fee is payable.

Can I ask for advice?

Yes. Selborne Guitars is happy to give free and no-obligation guidance in relation to topics including but not limited to guitar maintenance, modification, repair, intended guitar purchases and personal guitar sales.

Do you accept donations of unwanted or damaged instruments?
Absolutely! Selborne Guitars accepts (with prior agreement) donations of unwanted or damaged instruments, for renovation and donation to charitable causes.
When do I pay?
Payment is on collection. We accept card payments, bank transfers and cash of the exact amount. We do not accept cheques.
Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. Selborne Guitars offers one free ‘tweak’ service on work completed for a period of 14 days from the date of collection. We do not offer refunds.

Do you collect and deliver?
No. You are responsible for dropping off your instrument at our site and collecting it once any work is completed. You can at your own risk arrange to have your guitar transported to/from us by courier, or other method, but you are responsible for any arrangements, all costs and for ensuring that the instrument is safely packaged.
